Week of April 15 – 19, 2024
Hello Kincaid Families!
As we enter into our last weeks of school, we continue to focus on student learning, as well as prepare for a multitude of celebrations and fun traditions! To maintain our safest and most productive learning environment, we continue to reinforce Kincaid expectations and follow the Cobb County Student Code of Conduct.
Please be reminded of Cobb’s F Policy on PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS/ELECTRONIC DEVICES: 1. Elementary and Middle School: Students shall not use, display, or turn on smart watches, cellular phones, video phones, or electronic devices during instructional time, class change time, recess, breakfast, or lunch. This means that students must keep their devices turned off and in their backpacks while on the bus, in the school, and anywhere on campus. Students may turn on their devices after they get off the bus and leave the bus stop area.

3rd, 4th, 5th GRADE PARENTS
MILESTONE TESTING
In compliance with the Federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and Georgia HB244, students in grades three through five will be assessed with Georgia Milestones End of Grade (EOG) assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics, and students in grade five will also be assessed in Science. These assessments measure how well students have mastered the grade level standards. Kincaid teachers and students have been working all year to ensure that students are prepared to take these assessments. Preparations have included teaching students to answer more complex questions and to provide supporting evidence. Georgia Milestones EOG assessments are administered on the computer. These assessments include selected-response (multiple-choice) and technology-enhanced items in all grades and courses, as well as constructed response (open-ended), extended constructed response, and extended writing-response items in English Language Arts. Students will take these assessments following the schedule above. Please remind your student of the importance of doing their best on each section of the test and ensure your child reports promptly to school on the scheduled test days. After Cobb County School District receives the test results, you will be able to access them via CTLS Parent. If you have any questions about Georgia Milestones assessment administration, please contact Mrs. Griffeth. Information regarding the Georgia Milestones Assessment System can be found at gadoe.org. |

EVALUATING:
FACT VS. FICTION
One of the first skills in developing information literacy is being able to tell the difference between fact and opinion. A fact is a statement that can be proven true or false. An opinion is an expression of a person’s feelings that cannot be proven. An awareness of the difference can be developed through questions and conversations. Engage your child in conversation using the words “fact” and “opinion” and have him identify statements of both types. For example, “Chocolate chip cookies are the best kind of cookie.” “Mommy has dark brown eyes.” “School should be cancelled on sunny days.” “There are 12 months in a year.”
